ASIFA-Hollywood Animation Archive

February 19th, 2010

I love the ASIFA-Hollywood Animation Archive. They just posted a bunch of amazing old comics including some roughs by Bill Wenzel. Good gravy. Here’s some other great stuff that they’ve posted in the past: Alex Toth model sheets, a Shel Silverstein and Jack Cole Valentine’s Day comic, and some Eldon Dedini Playboy cartoons. That doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface.

Definitely one of the treasures of the internet.

Fun-A-Day. Pre-Show.

February 17th, 2010
My sister and I braved the snow encrusted North Side (there are some crazy big heaps of snow over there) and dropped off our pieces for tomorrow’s Fun-A-Day show (6pm-10pm at AIR). It looked like the parking lot across the street from AIR was pretty well cleaned out, so there’s plenty of parking. There will also be food and box wine.

It should be a rollicking good time.

Unfortunately, there were technical difficulties with my POD Bra and Panties magazine, but the proof copy with a judiciously placed sticker on the back will do in a pinch. It’s not perfect, but I’ve messed around with the file since I printed the ones I ordered for the show anyway. There are no final versions in the digital age. Also, the proof was actually the second proof, so it’s pretty damn close. Did that pique your interest?

Not even a little?

What if the guy’s not married?

February 15th, 2010

What if the guy's not married?

I was inspired by all the people (well, it was only Graham Annable and Vera Brosgol) posting Lost fan art on Twitter the other week for its premiere. I thought I’d do something from a show that I like and that isn’t watched by, you know, millions of people. Yup, it’s Men of A Certain Age fan art. Depicted here is a little scene from the fifth episode. Actually, it’s a composite of two moments from a scene and it isn’t even one of the stars of the show.

Hey, it’s fan art. I can do whatever I want.

Check it out full size here.

Men of a Certain Age exists in a strange limbo. Who exactly is the target audience? It stars a bunch of men so it’s a guy show, right? Nope, it doesn’t have action or scantly clad women, so guys aren’t going to watch, but it doesn’t have enough dead bodies to get women viewers either. It’s a “chick show” for guy (but it’s not the chick show equivalent for guys; that would be Entourage). It’s about relationships. Who wants to watch that? The show I would compare it to is Freaks and Geeks. The ages of the main characters are totally different, but it has the same awkwardness and heart. Difficult things are going to happen to the characters but in the end it’ll end up okay (and no one will find themselves chained to a radiator or decapitated). It also has Andre Braugher for junks sake. I’d watch Andre Braugher do just about anything. Alright, this rambling probably isn’t helping the show’s cause. If you watch it you should know that the first three episodes are good, but it gets really good with episode four. Skip ahead to episode five if you really can’t be bothered to start from the beginning. Hey, that’s where the fan art comes from. What a coincidence.

Men of a Certain Age. Mondays at 10:00pm on TNT.

TNT: We know drama.

Fun A Day. Day Thirty-One.

Continued from yesterday, the thirty-first and final Fun-A-Day 2010 strip.
I decided not to kill them off so maybe new exploits will appear on Friday.
Maybe.

Got a little too fine with the fine detail on this one
Only one more to go!
